Last night's House gains not only outstripped 1994's Gingrich-led revolution, but actually deliver the largest Republican House majority in 60 years- nothing short of a watershed that Krauthammer is calling the "death of the Obama agenda".
The likely new Speaker -Rep John Boehner- has already claimed a mandate in the decisive victory to roll-back ObamaCare, which he described as "a monstrosity".
At this point we're looking at a minimum gain of +10 GOP state governorships, at least +60 Republicans in the US House of Representatives, as well as 7-8 GOP pickups in the Senate.
With moderate Democrats now frightened for their prospects in 2012, you can count on a few votes pivoting the GOP's way in the Senate on tax cuts and perhaps even defunding ObamaCare. And they surely won't be following the President off any more cliffs. Corrupt fossil Harry Reid remains... but in power only nominally: it's the Republicans in the driver's seat on Capitol Hill now.
Hey SanFranNan: please turn in your gavel... and don't forget bring the keys to that big freaking leather-lined jet (hands off the booze, crazy lady- it's over).
Of course we reactionary impediments-to-progress in the Party of No "only want to see Obama fail"- I know I do.Although libs usually are wrong in the motivations they attempt to assign to it, they now have been proven utterly correct in thinking that we're "just out to stop" Dear Leader... we are, we can- and we did.
I sincerely believe what is bad for Obama's schemes is good for America- yesterday's vote confirms millions feel the same. But Nile Gardiner at the Telegraph (UK) takes it a step further... we "saved a superpower":
Consider the political implications down the line: Republicans gained 7-8 Senate seats -2x typical midterm gain- but do not command a majority, which Barack Obama surely would have found useful as a foil in 2012: when he's not spreading-the-wealth-around it's usually blame -or something else.
Stopping Obama's radical judgeships was a top reason for needing control of the Senate ASAP, but we didn't pull it off. However a strategic argument could be made that yesterday's outcome is an almost optimum result (esp. considering all the governorships and statehouses we flipped... just in time for redistricting):
Obama now cannot pull a Slick Willy '96 and run against the GOP Congress. The Senate will be nominally ruled (with no real power) not by evil -yet clever- Schumer... but the senile and despised Harry Reid, who's worth nearly as many GOP votes in 2012 as Pelosi was this time-round. Just look at the Senate seats up in two years... we'll likely be taking many of them along with the White House.
And speaking of Harry Reid's dirty little machine, it's surely time to boycott Harrahs. They pushed their employees hard to vote for Dingy Harry- and thus I will never stay at their hotels or frequent their casinos. Reid never did explain how he got so darn rich, did he?
The overwhelming attacks on Angle were also unprecedented... they just destroyed this woman, making her look like she belongs in an insane asylum: my cousin reports receiving at least 5 pieces in the mail every week in her Nevada mail box telling her how "extreme" and "dangerous" Angle was. Not to mention all the TV ads... like nothing we've ever seen.
Sharron Angle had her flaws as a candidate, but what Reid did to paint her as a lunatic was a crime against democracy... his machine of money and union muscle exposed him as the ruthless, unprincipled power addict that he is- no surprise to most of us.
SCREW THEM, they deserve whatever happens now... NO federal bailout of this irresponsible fiscal black-hole. The US flag would look perfectly handsome with just 49 stars, we'll just hand you right over to Mexico and be done with it- lol
Despite the media trying to pull the curtain early, Carly Fiorina is still not yet conceding... and it's close. Senate races in Washington state and Colorado remain too tight to call, and a dozen House races are still unresolved at this hour. However, the GOP majority in the House is mathematically secured.
Up in Alaska TEA Party favorite Joe Miller is trailing RINO-chameleon hybrid Lisa Murkowski by 10,000 votes... or is he? In reality, the actual leader is "write in"... and weeks of legal wrangling likely lays ahead as they iron-out just what happened up there.
